- Agiltron Shows New Switching Products at OFC/NFOEC

Agiltron Inc., a leading developer and producer of optical and photonic devices and sensor-based systems, is showing new switching products at the Optical Fiber Conference (OFC/NFOEC) Exhibit. The products include Variable Optical Attenuators (VOA), MEMS fiberoptic switches, and fiberoptic matrix switches. These products are based on Agiltron patented thermal activation MEMS technology and are manufactured using a standard semiconductor process and achieves superior optical performance and reliability. These products are attracting interest from major telecom and datacom system providers, as they provide state-of-the-art optical light management functions with superior reliability and features at an attractive price.

Agiltron Inc. a leading provider of optical devices and sensor- based systems announces the availability of its LargeMotion™ free-space MEMS VOA/Shutter for general applications. The patent pending LargeMotion™ MEMS product family features large displacement covering over 0.7mm beam size in a compact size of less than 7mm, an industrial first. They are produced in our in-house foundry and packaged with a submount for easy integration into customer devices. When assembled with laser or fiberoptic, it can achieve as high as 70dB light blocking with zero additional loss and an operation broad band from 200 to 8000nm. The availability of these optical MEMS chips demonstrates Agiltron leadership in providing state-of-the-art optical light management products with performance and price- points never before available to designers.

Based on Agiltron patented thermal activation MEMS technology, the switch is manufactured using a standard semiconductor process and achieves superior reliability of over one billion switching cycles. Compatible for use with the Agiltron PermLock™ Fiberoptic Splice kit, the fiber cleaver is constructed to allow the user to make thousands of cuts through high-performance polyimide-coated optical fiber before a blade change.
